Showcase
As a graduate student at Michigan State University I have had a variety of experiences. MSU is known for its work as a research institution as well as promoting study through field-based experiences. I have divided my work within this showcase into those two categories, as they show growth both through professional development-type experiences and educational research and theory.
Field-Based Work
Literacy Case StudyThe document below is a case study, which I conducted in spring 2019. I worked with one of my more advanced Developmental Kindergarteners to improve her phonological awareness. This work shows my skills of assessment, differentiated instruction, and phonological awareness content.
Reflections on How-To WritingTeaching the steps of the writing process happen within every genre, but it is essential that students are able to connect with their writing and what better way to build this connection than by having them write about a topic of mastery? Below is the development, implementation, and reflection of teaching the How-To genre.

Research-Based Work
Early Language Affecting Early LiteracyThe document below is my reflection on how early language exposure affects literacy skills. In this essay I discuss what I can do as a teacher to help supplement language gaps in order to promote literacy development for all students.
All About Words Review and ReflectionWhile learning about effective reading and writing assessment, I had the opportunity to read Neuman & Wright's All about words: Increasing vocabulary in the Common Core classroom, PreK-2. I am able to utilize their strategies on how to incorporate vocabulary within my own classroom, seen below.

Learner Profile of J. Robert OppenheimerAs a teacher, it is very important to learn about student needs, strengths, and family values. In this learner profile, I have demonstrated my skills in doing just this! In the document below it is easy to see how Oppenheimer's background influenced his education.
Classroom Management PlanIn the power point below, I have used evidenced-based practices for Classroom Management that I learned while taking CEP 883 and created a Classroom Management plan for the upcoming school year. I have incorporated multiple aspects of classroom management in my plan: classroom layout and design, procedures, expectations, scheduling, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
